He was predeceased by: his parents, William E. Smith (Bubby) and Joyce Knight Smith; Roger, Patty, Pam, Laurel and Brenda.

He is survived by: his wife Kelly Smith; his children, Charlotte Smith (Mark Carvalho), Heather McCotter (Mark McCotter), Haylee Maya (Jon Maya), Heidi Ferguson (Brett Ferguson), Holly Oakes (Stephan Oakes) and Dwayne (Amanda Smith); his grandchildren, Alecia, Mitchell, Madison, Jaiden, Dakoda, Maliyah, Janiyah, Ariyah, Eavie, Nathan, Kaitlan, Benjamin and Cameron; and his sisters, Jean Lindsay, Diane Lucier and Susan St. Pierre. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
