It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James M. Oktavec Sr. of Middletown, Connecticut, who passed away on October 3, 2025, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank J. Oktavec and Thora Oktavec (Christensen); his siblings, Frank Oktavec, Jr., Albert Oktavec and Anna Manke; his grandchildren, Martin Oktavec and Brendon Lastrina; his stepsons, Joe Lastrina, Jr. and Michael Lastrina; and his son-in-law Scott Oakliff.
He is survived by: his wife Beverly Oktavec (Dombrowski); his children, James Oktavec (Jennifer) and Kim Oktavec-Gustamachio; his stepchildren, Lin-Marie Oakliff, Angelo Lastrina (Eileen), Annette Lastrina-Aitken and Lori Branciforte (Robert); his grandchildren, Leah Gustamachio, Joseph Lastrina, III, Justin Oakliff (Anna), Kristina Oakliff, Melanie Hayes (Eric), Angelo Lastrina (Arielle), Joseph Aitken, Kyle Aitken, Mariah Lastrina, Isabelle Lastrina, Robert Branciforte (Jessica) and Jonathon Branciforte Anthony Branciforte (Nicole); and his great grandchildren, Camryn, Emma, Michael, Madelyn, Scarlett, Sienna, Angelo, Luciano, Brooklyn and Elliana. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 13th 2025 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Biega Funeral Home (3 Silver St, Middletown, CT 06457). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 13th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary Church (51 Freestone Ave, Portland, CT 06480).
