He was predeceased by: his parents, John G. McLeod and June McLeod (Nordby); and his former wife Linda McLeod (Sterry). He is survived by: his wife Lisa Hess McLeod; his siblings, Robert McLeod (Joy) and Susan Robertson (James); and his children, John "Jay" A. McLeod Jr. (Alina), Micheil J. McLeod and Karen Bourret (Ryan).
