He was predeceased by: his parents, James "Jimmie" Cherry, Sr. and Emma Tyler Cherry; and his siblings, Lucy Mae Cherry, Jimmie Cherry, Jr., Jesse Cherry and Stevie Louis Cherry.

He is survived by: his wife Thelma; and his siblings, Charlie Louis Cherry (Sherlyn), Luther Cherry (Symera), Josephine Cherry Gatling (Otis) and Alice Faye Cherry.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 13th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Doolittle Funeral Home (14 Old Church St, Middletown, CT 06457). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 13th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
