He was predeceased by: his wife Maria "Mary" Finnell; his parents, John Finnell and Helen Finnell Barnes; and his stepfather Edward Barnes. He is survived by: his son John "Jack" Finnell II; his grandchildren, Crystal Sinnott (John), John "Jack" III and Michael Finnell; his great grandchildren, Colton, Kinsley and Hadley Sinnott; and his sister Joan Goda (Roseann "Rose" Daddona). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
