Michael Rozzi Obituary
On Friday, June 16, 2023 at 5:30 a.m, Michael Rozzi of Milford, Connecticut and former Wilton resident, left this earth to join our heavenly Father. Michael was born on November 5, 1930 in Harlem, New York where he lived until his family moved to Mount Vernon, New York. He was the son of the late Theodore and Jeanne (Pommier) Rozzi. His Mother was from France and Michael spent time there as a child.
After attending Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx Michael began working as a bookkeeper at Continental Insurance Company in New York before serving in the United States Army in Salzburg, Austria from 1951 to 1953. He was honorably discharged on July 16, 1953 with an Army of Occupation Medal Germany.
Upon his return from Europe Michael earned a bachelor degree from Iona University and a masters degree in education from City College. He initially taught middle school in New York State and soon after became a teacher at Rye Neck High School in Mamaroneck where he taught accounting for over 30 years. During this time Michael also taught accounting at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York, where he continued to teach until the age of 80. He was a patient and loving teacher both in and out of the classroom.
Living in Norwalk, Connecticut and later Wilton, he and his late wife, Madeline raised a family of three boys. In 2002, Michael became a grandfather. He graced the lives of his seven grandchildren with music and laughter, and would often say "My favorite grandchild is the one I am with.".
Michael had a lifelong love of music and was involved in singing most of his life. During the 1940s he sang on a "Sonny King and the Satellites" record as one of the 'Satellites'. He sang in several church choirs and for many years was a member of the Bridgeport Coastal Chordsmen Chorus. He also enjoyed singing in quartets along with his son Chris.
Michael Rozzi is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Christopher and Wendi Rozzi, his older brother Theodore Rozzi, his younger brother Robert Rozzi, his younger sister Yvonne Calvert, and grandchildren Kenyon, Tyler, Makenna, Samuel, Andrew, Holden, and Matthew Rozzi. Michael was preceded in death by his wife Madeline Rozzi, parents Theodore and Jeanne Rozzi, sons Michael and Thomas Rozzi, and younger brother Anthony Rozzi.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 22, 2023, 11:30 a.m at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd., Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at the Magner Funeral Home on Thursday, June 22, from 10-11 a.m.
