She was predeceased by: her husband Samuel Shansky; her parents, Alexander Pavloff and Sophie Yaremenko Pavloff (Еременко); her sister Nina McNamara of Ridgewood; and her daughter-in-law Ann Philip.

She is survived by: her children, Charles Shansky of Onsala and Sandra Shansky (Sandy); her grandchildren, Molly Whittington (Jeffrey Blumberg) of Chapel Hill, Danielle Whittington (William Stowe) of Hamden and Michael Shansky of Billdal; her great grandchildren, Theodore and Oscar Blumberg of Chapel Hill; her sibling's children, Brien McNamara, Bruce McNamara, Michele Butcher, Charles Young (Chuck), Marilyn Young and Martin Young; her cousins, Véronique Compain, Jean Robichon and Catherine Chvabo; and her friend John Kirby of Miami, Florida..

In lieu of flowers or trees, donations can be made to the Institute for American Indian Studies in Washington, Connecticut because "they were here first.".
