He is survived by: his wife Maria Fernanda Coelho Pires; his children, Maria Lena Pires (Jason) and David Pires (Helena); his grandchildren, Carlos, Mike and Thomas; and his brother-in-law Boaventura Coelho (Lourdes). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
