He was predeceased by: his father Carlos B. Taft, Sr.; and his sister Terri Yvonne Taft-Hicks. He is survived by: his mother Hazel Taft; his nieces, Whitney, Christina, Paris, Arianna and Karla; his wife Melanie Liptrot-Taft; his daughter Alexis Liptrot; his brothers, Carlos Taft, Jr. (Sandra) of Rochester, NY and Jonathan Taft (Jacky) of New Haven; his godson Isaiah Wooten; his parents-in-law, Robert and Fannie Liptrot; and his brother-in-law Robert E. Liptrot (Nola). He is also survived by loving aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and friends.

They all continued dancing at Tia Russell Dance Studio until the studio temporarily closed due to the pandemic.
