She was predeceased by: her parents, Fred Bynam and Lilla M. Bynam Johnson; her daughters, Valerie Smith and Cynthia Smith; her stepfather Starr Johnson; her sisters, Sadie Freeman, Alice Ezekiel and Fannye Crite; her grandchildren, Karen Smith and Tyrese Smith; and her close friend Mattie Sessions.
She is survived by: her son Donald Smith (Michele) of Meriden. She is also survived by six grandchildren; great-grandchildren, as well as great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Bethel AME Church - New Haven (255 Goffe St, New Haven, CT 06511). A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Beaverdale Memorial Park (90 Pine Rock Ave, New Haven, CT 06515).
