Janie C. Holmes Obituary

With sadness, we share the passing of Janie C. Holmes (New Haven, Connecticut). Janie, born on July 3, 1940 in Society Hill, South Carolina, passed away on September 8, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, James Charles, Sr. and Hattie McKay Charles; her husband Thomas E. Holmes; her siblings, Horace Charles, James Charles, Jr., Willie "Bubba" Charles, Sr., Easter Mae Tinney and Hallie Malloy; and her siblings-in-law, Pansy Charles, Rita L. Charles, Vanita Charles, Howard F. Tinney, Sr., Lee T. Malloy and John W. Carrington.

She is survived by: her children, Jeffrey Charles, Sr. (Glenda) and Veronica Holmes-Boyd; her grandsons, Jeffrey Charles, Jr. and Joshua Lafayette; and her daughter Carolyn Charles Carrington. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, godchildren, friends.

Visitation was held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Community Baptist Church (143 Shelton Ave, New Haven, CT 06511). A celebration of life was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Evergreen Cemetery - New Haven (769 Ella T Grasso Blvd, New Haven, CT 06519).
