He was predeceased by: his father Victor Jara; and his siblings, Jose Simgurima, Juan Jara and Leonor Jara. He is survived by: his mother Clementina Sangurima; his mother-in-law Rosa Aucapina of New Haven; his siblings, German Sangurima of Ecuador, Celia Jara of Ecuador and Jaime Jara; and also, Jonathan Jara of Cheshire, Brian Jara of New Haven, Sheyla Jara of New Haven, Edgar Jara of Branford, Nancy Jara of Ecuador, Fabian Jara of East Haven and Maira Jara of Naugatuck. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
