He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Lillie M Doward and Roosevelt Highsmith; his wife Gladys Graham; his children, Toby Graham of New Haven, CT. and Amy Williams (Bryant) of Hamden, CT.; his grandsons, Phillip Counsel Jr. of New Haven and Jarell Graham of Hamden, CT.; his stepfather Johnnie Doward; his siblings, Doris Doward of New Haven, CT, Rosa, Barbara Highsmith of Bethel, NC, Diane Howard of Greensboro, NC, Audrey Moore of Bethel, NC., Charles Highsmith of Bethel, NC, Alton Ray Highsmith of Jersey City, NJ and Michael; his uncle William; his stepmother Allie Gee Highsmith; his grandparents, Nancy Stanley and Wadie Highsmith; his aunt Martha Mae Doward; his siblings, Carolyn Birdine and Donald Ray Doward; his nephew William Birdine Jr.; his uncle James Stanley; and his brother Dick, I. He was also cherished by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21st 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the McClam Funeral Home Chapel (95 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT 06511). A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 21st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
