With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Vernice Murphy of Newtown, Connecticut, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on September 10, 2025 at the age of 91. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Vernice Murphy to pay them a last tribute.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Mattie B. Jackson and Thomas Jackson; and her son Charles A. Agurs, Jr.. She is survived by: her sister Dorothy Morgan; her children, Milton L. Agurs, Tanya Agurs Collins (William Collins) and Charlene Agurs Bailey (David Bailey); her grandchildren, Charles A. Agurs, III, Dorean Collins, Rachel Bailey, Derrick Collins, Allison Bailey and Bhrittaney Kearse; and her great grandchild Langston Kearse. She is also survived by relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held on Friday, September 26th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Newtown United Methodist Church (92 Church Hill Rd, Sandy Hook, CT 06482).
