He was predeceased by : his parents, Roscoe Bowles and Margaret Scott Bowles; his grandson Joseph Bowles; and his nephews, Chris Taylor and Chad Chappelle.

He is survived by : his children, Richard Bowles, Estelle Gabriel (Charles) and Roger Bowles (Emily); his grandchildren, Julia Bowles and Manny Bowles; and his sister Carol Chappelle (Wes).
