Angela Avery Obituary
Angela Maria (Pirro) Avery, 85, wife of the late Robert F. Avery, Sr. of Norwalk passed away on October 13th at St. Vincent's Hospital with her family by her side. Born on May 23, 1940 in Jelsi, Campobasso, Italy, she was the daughter of Joseph and Teresa (Santella) Pirro. In addition to her parents, Angela was predeceased by her sister, Philomena Ferraro, and her brother, Andrea Pirro.
Angela came to the United States in 1954, when she was fourteen years old, and lived in Norwalk for more than sixty years. As a teenager, she learned English very quickly and attended school until she was sixteen when she began working full time. She worked at the Edwards Fire Co., the Red Coach restaurant, the Silvermine Tavern Inn, and then at Pepperidge Farm until her retirement. Her family was the most important part of her life. She loved her husband and children deeply and of course she loved no one more than her "bambola", Caroline Joan, her cherished granddaughter, who was the absolute joy of her life. Angela enjoyed traveling with her daughter, Carol Ann, and they took trips together to Italy, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Newport. And although she was not a sports fan, she loved driving out to Penn State with her husband, Bob, her son, Bobby, daughter-in-law, Catherine, and her granddaughter, Caroline. When she had time she did many arts and crafts and her friends and family often referred to her as the "Italian Martha Stewart.". But most of the time you could find her in the kitchen, where she loved spending hours cooking and baking her specialties such as Easter bread, biscotti, and her famous Hungarian cookies.
Angela is lovingly survived by her son Robert F. Avery, Jr, (Catherine), her daughter, Carol Avery Kaye (Daniel) and step daughter, Jennifer, and most importantly her beloved granddaughter, Caroline Joan. She is also survived by her nephew Joseph Ferraro, Jr. (Lisa), and her niece, Teresa Pirro Viale.
A Catholic Mass will be held on Monday, October 20th at 10AM at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan, CT. Interment will be directly after at St. John's Cemetery in Norwalk.
