Barbara Ann Edwards Obituary
Barbara Ann Edwards, 88, of Norwalk, CT, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Norwalk Hospital on August 3, 2026. Born in Norwalk, the daughter of the late Robert and Genevieve (Penkala) Takacs, Barbara was raised in the Hungarian community of Norwalk as girl and attended St. Ladislaus Church with her family. She graduated from Norwalk High School and shortly after married her "lifetime sweetheart" Allen Edwards Sr. after he returned from time abroad in the U.S. Navy, to whom she was married for 64 years.
They raised a beautiful family of five children in Norwalk. She was also employed in Norwalk at MBI Inc. as a Supervisor for 33 years.
Over the years the children flourished into a close-knit family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sixteen in all, with whom she loved to vacation in Cape May, NJ, her "home away from home," where she would walk the boardwalk and the mall enjoying local shops.
She enjoyed hosting beloved holiday gatherings each year where she would amaze family with her hospitality and baking, leaving a lasting impact on all her children, grandchildren, and their spouses who she always welcomed with open arms into the Edwards Family.
She will be dearly missed by her family, as they strive to carry on her legacy.
A devoted wife, a wonderful mother, and a caring grandmother she will be sweetly remembered by all her family, especially as Grandma/"Gabby"/"Yaya" to her cherished grand and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Allen Edwards Sr.; her sister Carol Bickerstaff; and her daughters Karen Williams and Christine McCormack.
She is survived by her daughter Catherine Edwards and fiancée Joseph Ferris; her son Allen Edwards Jr. and wife Linda; her son Robert Edwards; her grandchildren; Margaret Springer; Mallory Agler and husband Jon; Ryan Springer and wife Allyson; Francis Springer and wife Tori; Matthew Edwards and wife Michelle; Justin Edwards; Hanna McCormack; and her great-grandchildren, Jack and Vale Agler; Malekai, Cassius and Elliana Springer; Daniel and Caleb Springer; and Baby Girl Edwards on the way this fall.
Calling hours will be at Magner Funeral Home on Thursday, August 6, from 5-8 p.m. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 7, at St. Matthew's Church, 216 Scribner Ave. Norwalk, with burial to be held privately by her family.
