Joan Godfrey Obituary
Joan Godfrey, age 89 died peacefully on March 31, 2026 after a long battle with vascular dementia. Born on April 30, 1936 to Lester and Lillian Rackett she was a lifelong resident of Norwalk, CT graduating from Norwalk High School in 1954. She was a switchboard operator at the former Merchants Bank for many years.
In June of 1957 she married Gordon Godfrey and they eventually bought a home in the Broad River area of Norwalk. They spent many happy years there gathering with neighbors and loved the music of Elvis Presley. After the devastating loss of Gordon in 1984, she met her friend and companion, Edward MacNeil the following year. They had 25 years together enjoying outings on the water along with attending big band revival concerts and Broadway shows.
Joan is survived by her daughter Tracy Moon (Michael), grandsons Aidan and Kyle, her sister-in-law Susan Letrich (Kalman), nephews, nieces, cousins and pets Bailey, Salem and Presley. She was pre-deceased by her sister Alice Rackett.
Service will be private. In lieu of flowers, we ask that contributions in Joan's memory be made to St. Matthew's Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06854 or to Marching Bears, Inc. sent to Norwalk High School to the attention of Chris Rivera, 23 Calvin Murphy Drive, Norwalk, CT 06854 (payable to MBI).
We would like to extend our most sincere thanks to our countless number of friends for their support over the past few years. A special thanks to Michael's family who were always very kind to Joan making her a part of their family. Finally thank you to her great grandparents John and Anna Wilcek for choosing Norwalk, CT as their home when they immigrated from Prague in 1902.
