He was predeceased by: his parents, Anthony Amato and Anna Amato; his wife Carolyn Waterbury of Mary's Church; and his brothers, Sam and Tony.

He is survived by: his daughters, Patricia Peterson (Charlie), Joyce Horne (David) and Susan Price (Dave); his grandchildren, Amy, Kayla, Joey, Meghan and Ken; and his great grandchildren, Austin, Carter, Blake and Kyle.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Joseph's honor.
