Kathleen Thopsey Obituary

Kathleen Beatrice Jones Thopsey passed away peacefully at home on August 20th after a short but stoic battle with cancer. She was just 73 years old. Born January 8, 1952 in Norwalk, CT, the daughter of the late George E. and Marie (Sherwood) Jones.

Kathy leaves four children- Ryan Thopsey and his partner Scott Kowalewski of Nokomis, FL, Brooks Thopsey of Trumbull, CT, Melissa Thopsey and her husband John Morrell of Wilton, CT, Graham Thopsey and his wife Loriann of Milford, CT. Her memory lives on in her four grandchildren, Hawke Thopsey, Berrin Morrell, Oliver & Lucy Thopsey, her brother Casey Jones and his wife Debra of Black Rock, CT, along with their three daughters, Betsy Jones, Emily Janocha, Abigail Jones, and their families. She will be severely missed by her beloved dog Sport.

She was a member of St. Theresa Church in Trumbull where she was a Guardian at the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel and a member of the Confraternity of the Rosary. She was an active member of the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield where she spent the last 20 years practicing the Irish language and supporting Irish language classes, something she was very proud of. Cait, as she was known to her Irish friends, was deeply involved in the organization of Irish language learning, Daltaí na Gaeilge. She will be fondly remembered as a "Daltaí Diva" for her performances of translated songs, and for her shortbread. Kathy retired from Fairfield University in 2020 after 22 years of working in the departments of the President's Office, the Student Health Center, and Human Resources, where she met many wonderful friends. She was also proud to have been an Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 39 in Westport. She enjoyed the simple things- reading, sewing, baking, and drinking tea. Most of all, she loved socializing with her family and friends and hosting them at her cozy home.

She leaves many family and friends who will sadly miss her. She is truly gone too soon.

Her family would also like to thank the amazing team at the Smilow Cancer Center in Trumbull, especially Dr. Yifei Zhang, Sara Lantowski, and Katie Kelly for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Kathy every week.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30am on Thursday, August 28th meeting directly at St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St, Trumbull, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial. Internment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Ave, Norwalk, CT.

Visitation is from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, August 27th at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk, CT.

The family requests in lieu of flowers to make a contribution in her honor to her Irish Language group, Daltaí na Gaeilge, or to your local dog shelter.
