Maryann Gordon Obituary
Maryann Gordon, of Norwalk, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, just days before her 93rd birthday. Born on June 15, 1933, in Norwalk, a city she loved and called home many times throughout her life.
Maryann was the beloved daughter of the late Otto Freitag Jr. and Mary Romanchuck. As the oldest of six children, she helped pave the way for her siblings and remained deeply devoted to her family throughout her life. She was predeceased by her brothers Otto Freitag III, Arthur Freitag, and her sister Helene Gradia. She is survived by her sisters, Shirley Lee and Gladys Peruzzi.
Maryann was also predeceased by her former husband, George McNelis, and by her cherished daughters, Sharon Zeoli and Georgina Miller, whom she loved dearly and missed deeply.
For many years, Maryann worked as a bank teller at Connecticut National Bank in Norwalk, where she was known for her friendly smile, dedication, and warm personality.
Nothing brought Maryann more joy than her family.
She treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren and took immense pride in their lives and accomplishments. Her beloved grandchildren Shari Cenatiempo, Nicole Miller, Meghan Zeoli, Gina Miller, Jennifer Zeoli McDowell, Lindsey Zeoli Cossuto, Sara Zeoli, Kaitlyn Zeoli, Kenton Brown, and Darlene Utz McSwine.
She also leaves behind a beloved legacy through her great-grandchildren: Michael Umpierre, Shane Paige, Brianna Umpierre, Alijah Baskin, Ryan Hernandez, Alivia McDowell, Tyler Fitch, Saeran Hernandez, Jaymee Jamison, Kaleb Dietl, Rhiley Fitch, Landon Little, Noah Otero, Ryker Jamison, Saige McSwine, Nova McSwine, Julian Cossuto, Blake McSwine, Lennox Little. And her great-great grand children Anderson James Umpierre, Alyas Zeoli Paulos, Zyra Umpierre, and one more precious great-great granddaughter on the way.
Maryann was known for never forgetting a birthday.
Whether through a phone call or card of a thoughtful message, she made sure every loved one felt remembered and celebrated. She also faithfully played her lottery numbers, hoping that one day she would become a millionaire-a dream she enjoyed chasing with humor and optimism.
She treasured the friendships she built throughout her life, especially with her best friend, Pat LaSorso, and her beloved cousin, Elsie Pelligrino. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her deeply.
Maryann's warmth and love for her family will be remembered always. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and in the family she cherished above all else.
Though she will be greatly missed, her memory will continue to bring comfort, laughter, and love to all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family will announce the details once they have been finalized.
