Melanie Capua Obituary

Melanie "Susie" Capua, 84 of Norwalk, died on June 13, 2025 at Norwalk Hospital. Born in Athens, TX on June 23, 1940. Susie came to New York in 1959 where she met and married her husband of 57 years, Daniel Capua. They built a business together and made time to ballroom dance and travel. They made Danbury, CT their home since the 1960's and built the shopping center at 39B Mill Plain Road and Danbury Stairs Corp. Susie was always helping others and was always available. Family and friends were very important to her.

While her pride and joy were her two grandchildren Anthony and Gina Marie, to say Susie took an active role in the lives of many would be an understatement. A caring, clever, and fierce presence, once you were hers you were looked after, cared for, and lovingly sassed for life. A woman of many names, roles, and titles, to each generation she impacted she held a different name- Sue to her own peers, Aunt Sue to her many nieces and nephews, Mom or some variation to her daughter and her peers, and Nina No No/Nin (pronounced "Neen") to her grandchildren and their peers, but to each generation she was well known, well loved, and well respected. She was something to everyone she met, and the care and outpouring of love for her in her final days and after has been a testament to the kind of woman she was in life and the kind of presence she will continue to have in the lives of those who love her.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Bennett Mazzola of Norwalk; her grandson Anthony Mazzola and his wife Shannon Colburn Mazzola of Monroe; her granddaughter Gina Marie Mazzola Dunn and her husband Nicholas Dunn of Stratford; her brother Steven Tanner and his wife Betsy Tanner of Florida, and many nieces and nephews. She had two "daughters of the heart" Deb Linley of Newtown and Jackie Dostie of Virginia.

She was predeceased by her parents Woford Tanner and Lula Mae Welborn Tanner; her husband, Daniel Capua; her sisters Barbara Hodges and Judy Ratley, and her brother Tom Tanner from Longview Texas.

Paying it forward was always important to her. Her kind heart was always open, and kindness came back to her always. We would like to thank the dedicated staff at both Norwalk and Danbury Hospital for their compassionate care. Our heartfelt thanks also goes to Sister Lucie and the entire team at Notre Dame in Norwalk, as well as the Norwalk Police Department and Norwalk Ambulance for their professionalism, kindness, and support.

A private service will be held in CT and then a Memorial service will be held in Longview, Texas. Donations can be made to Notre Dame Health & Rehabilitation Center (Checks made to "SSTV") 76 West Rocks Rd, Norwalk, CT 06851 or to the charity of your choice.
