He was predeceased by: his parents, Bertha Matera (Shivok) and Joseph Matera of Newington. He is survived by: his wife Lois; his brother Monsignor (Frank J. Matera); his children, Michael and Susan; and his great grandchildren, Hunter and Adeline.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Church & Allen Funeral Home (136 Sachem St, Norwich, CT 06360). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Cathedral of St. Patrick (211 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360). An entombment will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at the St. Joseph Cemetery (815 Boswell Ave, Norwich, CT 06360).
