He was predeceased by: his parents, Omer Matteau and Imelda Matteau (Armagh); and his wife Diane Salois Matteau. He is survived by: his children, Richard Matteau (Donna (D'Andrea)) of Plainfield, Connecticut, Gary Matteau (Sherry (Gutzmer)) of Plainfield, Connecticut, Lorie Matteau (Clint Chartier) of Norwood, Colorado and Robert Matteau of New York City; his grandchildren, Leo, Amanda, Tyler, Jared, Travis, Hannah, Rebekah and Olivia; and his great grandchildren, Zachary, Trenten, Jaceon, Kadin, Clementine and Jaxson. He is also survived by his family, friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Dougherty Brothers Funeral Home (595 Norwich Rd, Plainfield, CT 06374). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 9th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the St John the Apostle Church (15 Railroad Ave, Plainfield, CT 06374).
Alongside Diane, he was actively involved with St. John's Church in Plainfield and volunteered with the Haitian Health Foundation, traveling to Haiti and serving as an interpreter.
