He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Joseph Smykla I and Irene Smykla. He is survived by: his sons, Walter Smykla III, Gabriel Smykla and James Longfellow; and his sisters, Ondrea Chasse and Carol Thomas. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
