He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Piatti and Sarah "Sadie" Piatti (Long) of Portland. He is survived by: his daughters, Danielle Piatti and Lisa Piatti (Johnson); his brother Joseph Piatti; his son-in-law Roger Johnson; his grandson Jonathan Johnson; his nephew Robbie Warner (Amanda Warner); and his sisters-in-law, Francine Magnano and Donna Zawistowski. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Donations can be made in honor of Jim's memory to the Portland Fire Department, the Portland Food Bank or the Portland Animal Shelter.
