He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Bates and Mary Bates (Michon); his brother Rene; and his sister-in-law Linda Bates. He is survived by: his wife Gloria Bates (Gagnon); his daughter Donna Riel (Tom); his grandchildren, Jonathan, Kelly, Nicole and Anthony; his daughters, Judith Wootton (Chris) and Barbara Mountford; his granddaughter Danielle Keil (Brian); and his great grandchildren, Alexa Ross, Blake Rufini, Milo and Eleanor Keil.
