He was predeceased by : his father Sigel Akerman; his brother Roger; his stepfather Bengt Hoglund; and his father-in-law Carl Juthnas. He is survived by : his mother Martha Akerman (Harkonen); his wife Carin Akerman (Juthnas); his children, Benjamin Roger Akerman and Linnea Scarlet Akerman; his brother Glenn Akerman (Cassondra); his mother-in-law Irene Juthnas; his brother-in-law Bill Juthnas (Karen); and his nieces and nephews, Erik, Samantha, Chloe, Logan, Cameron, Brooke and Taylor.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 24th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Saint Andrew's Lutheran Church (6 Ivy Hill Rd, Ridgefield, CT 06877). A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, April 24th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Lounsbury House (316 Main St, Ridgefield, CT 06877). A burial was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Kensico Cemetery (273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla, NY 10595).
