He was predeceased by : his wife Inge Szalek (Arndt); his parents, Anton Szalek and Maria Szalek (Wahl); and his daughter Monika Szalek-Pindel. He is survived by : his daughters, Liane Litke of Ansonia, Linda Racine of Bridgeport and Heidi Meholik; and his grandchildren, David Litke (Laura), Kristen Cavallaro (Paul), Chuck Baldino (Kelly), Jason Baldino and Angelica Racine. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, as well as his many friends.
