It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Maria Barreira Pita of Shelton, Connecticut, who passed away on April 20, 2026, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Jose Barreira and Herminia Taveira Barreira; her brothers, Belmiro and Norberto Barreira; and her nephew Joe Barreira.
She is survived by: her husband Jose M. Pita; her sons, Carlos Pita, Jose Paul Pita, Jorge Manuel Pita and Michael Barreira Pita; and her siblings, Jose Barreira Jr., Dora Barreira, Fernanda Gomes, Zulmira Santos, Silvia Barreira Costa (Americo), Odette Barreira Schooley (Tomasz) and Natalia Pereira (Gustavo). She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
