He is survived by: his son John M. Kania Jr. (Caroline); his grandchildren, Olivia and Maxwell of South Windsor; his son Matthew Kania (Victoria) of East Windsor; his sister Nancy Kowalchik (Robert) of Frisco, TX; his niece Amy Herzog (Scott) of Celine, TX; and his nephew David Kowalchik (Melissa) of South Windsor.
