He was predeceased by: his father Charles Whelan; his sister Susan Whelan; and his niece Christine Morsey. He is survived by: his daughters, Ashley Cuccio (Joseph) of Valley Cottage, NY and Stephanie Whelan (Matt Gallagher); his grandson Greyson; his sister Maureen Taillon of Colorado; his niece Sheryl; and his nephew Michael.
