Bruce Dean William Obituary

Bruce Dean William, lifelong Stamford resident passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 6, 2021. He was born on May 10, 1928 to the late Harry Richard and Margaret Williams. Bruce served as one of Stamford's finest on the Stamford Police Department for 41 years, beginning with Badge134 on August 1, 1956 and he retired wearing Badge 3 on August 2, 1996.

He was a foot and vehicle patrol office, traffic control officer, police dispatcher, motor pool officer and abandoned vehicle officer. Many Rippowam High School students also remember Officer Bruce Williams working their campus throughout the 1970's as well as patrolling the Friendly's parking lot on High Ridge Road on weekend evenings.

Bruce and his wife, Adele, were married 67 years and opened their home to foster children of all ages, ethnicities, and races. Approximately 250 children were successfully adopted by loving families after spending weeks to years with the Williams family. Since 1985, Bruce was a member of Union Lodge 5 A.F. & A.M. Prior to becoming a police officer, Bruce served in the U.S. Army and was employed by Armour & Co, Rings End Fuel, and Hoffman Fuel.

Bruce is survived by his children, Bruce D. Williams, Jr., Cynthia Lee Williams (Daniel E.), Barbara Adele McAvoy (Michael), and Charles John Williams; his grandchildren Tracy Lee Skiba, Kelly Lyne Roche, and Terri Lynn Kuffner (Chad); his great grandchildren, Prestin Skiba, Camryn Skiba, Morgan Skiba, and Bethany McAvoy; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bruce is predeceased by his wife Adele, his brothers James Russell Williams (retired City of Stamford Fire Fighter), Wray Lozier Williams, Harry "Richard" Williams Jr., Samuel Albert "Burt" Williams; sisters Jaqueline "Jackie" Alberta Schull and Margaret "Peggy" Eliza Piche.
