He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Edwin and Helen Corcoran Knapp, Sr.; his sons, Ralph E. Knapp, III and Richard Allen Knapp; and his sister Grace Doblander.

He is survived by: his son Robert Knapp (Jessica); his nephew James Purcell; his grandchildren, Joseph, Thomas, Elizabeth and Abigail; and his friends, Madeleine and Alan Sleath.
