She was predeceased by: her husband Melville Lee Birks; her sister Constance Oesau; and her brother-in-law Harold "Mike" Thomas Oesau. She is survived by: her son Kibby Birks; her grandsons, Justin and Jonathan; her son James Birks; her granddaughters, Ingrid Hudon and Lily Birks; her son Martin Birks; her daughter-in-law Rosa; her nephews, Mike Oesau and Tim Oesau; and her close friend Aggie. She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers Joan asked for donations be made to the Stratford, CT Library.
