She was predeceased by: her husband Richard F. Francis; her parents, Jeremiah Sullivan and Mary Sullivan; and her siblings, Elizabeth Caron and Geoffrey Sullivan.
She is survived by: her daughter Deborah Bournival (Mark) of Torrington; and her grandchildren, Jennifer Bournival of Thomaston and Andrew Bournival of Thomaston. She is also survived by many nieces and a nephew.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan's name to the Thomaston Social Services Crisis Fund, Thomaston Town Hall, 158 Main Street, Thomaston or to the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Litchfield County, 32 Union Street, Winsted.
