He was predeceased by: his parents, Paolo Deriu and Giuseppina Deriu (Pina); and his brothers, John Deriu and Pinuccio Deriu. He is survived by: his wife Francesca Deriu (Sau); his sons, Marco Deriu of Waterbury and Roberto Deriu (Darlene Gerhard) of Waterbury; and his siblings, Maria Rosa Calaresu of Italy and Paolo Deriu of Waterbury.
