He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Daniel Shanahan and Cecilia Shanahan (Freeman); and his brother Dr. Daniel F. Shanahan. He is survived by: his wife Margaret; his children, Kathleen Duston (Donald), Ann Marie Shanahan (James Otis), Lauretta Swiderski (Brian), Elaine Lickteig (John) and Stephen Shanahan (Elizabeth Rohan); his grandchildren, Greg (Jasmine), Tim (Jessie), Stephen, Claire, Shannon, Kelly, Hannah, John, Cecelia, Raffaella and Joel; his great grandchildren, Aidan and Ruby Duston; and his caregivers, Anne Marie Walker and Joanne Mason.
