He was predeceased by : his spouse Adelicia Rivas Fontan; his parents, Agustín Fontán and Juana Correa Fontán; his siblings, Lydia Velez, Carmen D. Carrasquillo, Gladys Cabrera, Hector Fontán and Angel Fontán; and his son-in-law Timothy Byrnes.

He is survived by : his daughters, Lillian Fontán, Sandra Fontán Byrnes of Watertown, Nancy Trawick and Shirley Rodriguez; his grandchildren, Tiffany Maldonado, Alyssa Maldonado, Joseph Byrnes, Daniel Byrnes, Julie Trawick and Nilsa Rodriguez; his great grandchildren, Juliana Maldonado, Jisela Newman, Jordana Newman and Alessia Cerutti; and his brother Jorge Fontán of Waterbury. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family.
