He was predeceased by: his parents, James T. Shafer and Eleanor Gross; and his brothers-in-law, Richard L. Basinger and Larry Ludwig. He is survived by: his sister Nelda Sue Ludwig; his sibling's children, Mark Basinger (Katie), Matthew Ludwig and Sharlyn Smith of Lima, OH.; his close friends, Ruth, Win, Ellen, John, Joe, Sandra, Barbara, Tom, Elaine, Rick, Joanne and Pamela; and his faithful priest Rowena J. Kemp.
