He was predeceased by: his wife Joann Kowalewski Atwood; his parents, Herbert Atwood and Nora Nolan Atwood; and his siblings, Barbara Coss and Edward Atwood.
He is survived by: his children, Debbie Giordano, Ann-Marie Giannotti, Judy Atwood and Jim Atwood, Jr.; his grandchildren, Jennifer Herten, David Atwood, Anastasia Nadeau-DeBerry, Jacinda McMenamin, Caden Atwood, Michael Giannotti and James D. Atwood III; his great grandchild Aubree Herten; and his brother Steven Atwood.
