He is survived by : his wife Carol Garvey Hurley; his children, Mike James Hurley Jr. of Wethersfield, Patrick Garvey Hurley of Boston, Brennan Garvey Hurley of West Haven and Bridget Elizabeth Hurley of Wethersfield; his grandson Cooper Ericson; his sister Lynne Boucher (Ray); his nieces and nephews, Lindsay and Danny; his mother-in-law Annette Jalbert Garvey; his sister-in-law Laura Garvey Engel (Jim); his nieces and nephews, James, Tabitha, Nadine, Matthew and Jack; his sister-in-law Erin Garvey (Dave Knapp); his nieces and nephews, Hayden, Fiona, Zoe and Sharon Zalcman (Barry); his great-niece Katie Hurley; and his aunt Kathy Hurley.

James Hock wrote a sympathy message

“I considered Mike one of my favorite friends. When we were kids, Mike and I used to hang out at Greenfield Park and "The Swamp ". Whenever I got into mischief, Mike was right there, egging me on. My best memories, during the high and low points of my life, Mike was there. I liked talking about Mike's political campaigns with him. The world was a much better place with Mike in it. My deepest condolences go to his family.”
