He was predeceased by : his parents, Joseph Burns and Irene Burns (Ahearn); his siblings, Joseph Burns (Fran Christie), Edward (Gloria Burns), William (Ann Burns), Rita (Howard Thiery) and Pat (Paige Everin); and his brothers-in-law, William Kuckel and Robert Maliszewski.

He is survived by : his spouse Shirley Burns (Kuckel); his children, Denise Burns of Wethersfield and Joseph Burns (Nicky) of Cromwell; his sister Jane Hurley (John "Jack"); his siblings-in-law, Robert Kuckel of Newington, Richard, Nancy Kuckel of Newington and Jacqueline Maliszewski of Newington; and his nephew Ron.
