It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Charles Harris (Washington, District of Columbia), who passed away on November 15, 2025, at the age of 98, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, John Wesley and Leila Magby Harris; and his siblings, Benjamin Harris and Bernice Dickerson (John). He is survived by: his sister Juanita Jairrels (Clarence) of Anniston. He is also survived by five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins.
While serving as Department Chair, Dr. Harris was instrumental in securing a two million dollar grant from the Ford Foundation to enhance graduate programs in the Department and College. The Ford Foundation grant enabled the Department to hire additional faculty members and increase the number of graduate student fellowships.
