He is survived by: his children, Charles Thomas, Jr., Victoria Ida Green, Michael Sudbury, Brian Godfrey and Crystal Thomas Wilson; his wife Rita Rochelle Hunt of St. Louis; his close friend Ben E.; Ronald, Jacqueline Thomas, Michael, Kevin, Barbara, Charlie, Rachael, Duane, Michelle Nowlin, Lisette Alvarez and Kimberly Creer.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, as a member of the Drifters and was given a Pioneer Award by the Rhythm and Blues Foundation in 1999.
