As James Franklin departs from our midst, his spirit ascends to join the cosmic dance of stars, a shimmering constellation of memories that will forever grace the night sky of the hearts of those who loved James Franklin. Though James Franklin may no longer walk beside us, his legacy lives on — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of time and space.
He was predeceased by: his parents, John Columbus Rill and Frances Eleamor Rill; and his grandson Bennett. He is survived by: his wife Mary Elizabeth Laws "Betsy" Rill; his sons, Jimmy (Mary) and Derick (Carolyn); and his grandsons, Jake, Mack, Stephen (Kim) and Colin. He is also survived by friends, neighbors, and a large extended family.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, December 6th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the St. Albans Episcopal Church (3001 Wisconsin Ave, Washington, DC 20016).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project.
