Jefferson Nahun Luna Perez Obituary
It is with a heavy heart, that we announce the untimely death of Jefferson Nahun Luna Perez, who was born on January 9, 2006, in San Miguel, El Salvador then relocated to the United States at the age of five months, where he made Washington D.C. his home. Jefferson passed away on May 17, 2023, at the sweet age of 17. Jefferson started his journey at Truesdell Elementary in Washington D.C., after finishing elementary and middle school at Raymond Education Campus, he then went on to attend E.L. Haynes Public Charter School then transferred to Roosevelt High School. His dreams after graduating High School were to marry Litsy, have ten children and then be a Firefighter and Physical Therapist. His choice of career shows us who Jefferson really was. A young man, who was set on saving the lives of others and helping those who were injured. If you were lucky enough to meet Jefferson, then you were in the presence of an angel who walked on earth every day. His smile, and curly hair alone would bring a smile to your face, and his laughter was infectious. While many people in the world wake up everyday thinking about what they plan to do or where to go, Jefferson often thought about others and how he could somehow make their day better than it was the day before.
The Jefferson we knew, had a life that was not kind to him, and despite the lack of love he may have received from many Jefferson was fortunate to find that level of love with his second mom Yancy Reyes. Often, if you engaged in a conversation with Jefferson, he would tell you some of the craziest stories or fun facts, showing everyone how smart he was. Often, you would find yourself looking up a lot of things he said to see if they were true, only to find out that half of it was true and the other half was him playing around. His imagination and creativity would take you on journeys into his heart, and if for one moment you could place yourself in his head you would see life the way Jefferson did. Jefferson loved playing soccer and football and was often said to be one of the best players in D.C. scores.
Jefferson looked for love, often at home from his mother or her husband, and often seeking their approval. His life at home as a child and young adult was difficult, but despite the obstacles put before him he never saw wrong in anyone. Despite how often he was told no, or treated unkind, not once would Jefferson treat those who treated him unkind any different. That is a gift. It’s not a gift that is always taught by those who raise children into adults. That was taught to Jefferson from Jefferson as his heart was golden and pure without an ounce of hate for anyone. Jefferson later in life found true love, a family who loved him, and a partner who supported him. On those dark days, Litsy would often find ways to show Jefferson he was loved and cared for. Despite life and the issues many of us face, Jefferson was able to turn a situation into a better one. Often seeing the good in people when others were not able to. Jefferson was a young man who was born before his time, as he had an old soul, one that forgave often. Jefferson will be missed by many, especially his extended family who showed him love, kindness and respect up until the very end. His departure is unfair and unkind. Sharing the details of his life in the past is not to bring you sadness or anger, but it’s to show you that Jefferson found happiness and love. We are often reminded that family sometimes is based on the family we create ourselves. Despite his past and upbringing, find the comfort in knowing that in the last couple of years, he has been shown a love by Litsy and Yancy that many would dream of. Although we all grieve in ways we can’t imagine, find comfort in knowing that he was loved by so many, when he needed love the most.
Jefferson leaves behind his mother Elba Perez, her husband Arnold Sorto, his brothers Arnold Sorto, Henry Lazo Reyes, James Lazo Reyes, and sisters Angela Sorto and Genesis Sorto. He also leaves behind his life partner and soulmate Litsy Lazo Reyes, and his loving mother Yancy Reyes. He will be missed sorely by his uncle Renaldo Sorto, as well as other friends, family, and classmates.
