He was predeceased by: his wife Virginia Boyle Phillips; and his siblings, Helen P. Joram and Lidwine P. Battista. He is survived by: his children, John R. Phillips (Theresa) of Stanardsville, VA and Kathryn P. Kennelly (Patrick) of Washington, D. C.; his grandchildren, Michael, Megan, Luke, Jesse, Gavin and Virginia Sage; and his great grandchild Atlas.
