He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Gilchrist and Marie Gilchrist. He is survived by: his son Melvin Gilchrist Jr. Melvin; his wife Linda E. Gilchrist; his daughters, Melva J. Gilchrist and Traci D. Gilchrist; his stepchildren, Vangela Davis (Eddie), Sharonda Jackson (DeVon) and Jared Briscoe, Jr. (Erica); his siblings, David Gilchrist and Ernestine Bassett; his brother-in-law Robert Thornton; his brothers, Charles, Elmer and Stanley; and his nephew Milton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives.
