He was predeceased by: his wife Keum Young; and his siblings, Sunzah, Sunhe and Sunnim. He is survived by: his son David; his daughter-in-law Min Jeong; and his grandchildren, Kaitlin, Matthew and Kristen. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Witzke Funeral Homes Inc. (5555 Twin Knolls Rd, Columbia, MD 21045). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens (2150 Mt View Rd, Marriottsville, MD 21104).
His contributions to Korean historical research were recognized with numerous honors, most notably the Dongbaekjang (Camellia Medal) of the National Order of Civil Merit, one of the highest civilian honors awarded by the Republic of Korea.
